Here’s a short Q&A to get to know Mathew and how he works with clients.
What’s your biggest business learning from the past year?
From what I have seen, most businesses don’t have a strategy problem—they have a clarity and execution gap. This can be improved by simplifying the problem and focusing the business on what actually moves the needle.
What’s the one thing SMEs need to know to thrive this year?
Prioritise your ideas and align your resources accordingly. Many SME's have an abundance of ideas and are often spreading themselves thin in trying to deliver too many at the same time.
What would the title of your autobiography be?
There’s Always a Way Through
What three words would describe you?
Pragmatic, Commercial, Decisive
What book or podcast are you currently reading or listening to?
Its a mix depending on the week—Acquired for deep dives on how great companies are built, Equity Mates for a lightweight view on markets, and then a bit of politics and football to stay connected to what’s happening in the real world!
The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Back your judgement - most of the time the answer is available, and you need to be clear and confident to act on it.
What’s something you wish people would ask you?
What would you stop doing? Value comes from cutting complexity and focusing the business on what matters.
