Meet Emma Clayton

What’s your most significant business learning from the past year?
As businesses look for digital and technology to help them scale or accelerate growth, the one piece that many forget is keeping the equal focus on the human touch. Those businesses that build great experiences for their employees and clients will be the ones who create a true competitive advantage. We are still humans who want to work and learn from other humans.

What’s the one thing SMEs need to know to thrive in 2023?
As mentioned above, as the workforce becomes multi-generational, it is wise to focus on your teams and get closer to your people. Understanding each individual DNA and motivations will create innovation, collaboration, and productivity leverage. We all want to know that we are cared for, heard and understood- that’s when we become highly engaged and create a great workplace. 2023 is about investing more in your people and where the competitive advantage will sit. Many will try to make cuts, but I would cut marketing spending before people cuts because the people will become your greatest ambassadors- much more powerful than any marketing tactic.

What are three words that others would use to describe you?
Passionate, empathetic and lots of fun.

What would the title of your autobiography be?
“ Women” for all the campaigning I do around women in business.
